Description
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Business Accelerator provides a unique opportunity for entrepreneurial companies focused on alternative energy and green technologies and services. The mission of the Business Accelerator, which opened in October 2008, is to support the development of these companies by providing critical support services and the guidance entrepreneurs need to turn an idea or technology into a commercial business. Located in the heart of the Meadowlands, the Business Accelerator is housed in 12,000 square feet of Class A office space. Through its experienced director and management team, the Business Accelerator will provide not only affordable office space for client companies to call their corporate headquarters, but also one-on-one mentoring and an array of critical resources and services that may otherwise be unaffordable or inaccessible to young businesses. The Business Accelerator is a project of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, a State agency charged with economic development, environmental protection and solid waste management for parts of 14 towns in Bergen and Hudson counties. In line with its commitment to economic growth, specifically in the green-technology sector, the NJMC has appropriated $1.5 million to fund Accelerator operations over the next three years. The NJMC gives Business Accelerator clients access to its various departments. This includes the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute (MERI), the scientific and technological arm of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. The Business Accelerator has also forged formal collaborations with eight universities and colleges, including Rutgers Law Clinic, and a wide range of local and state business groups.
